The world-renowned alpine, karst mountain ranges of Kanin and Rombon are visited and explored by cavers from across the world. On Kanin are found some of the deepest caves in the world. In them, we find distinct karst phenomena and formations such as stalactites, flowstone, siphons, underground lakes, and pools.

The karst cave Srnica, with its relatively easy access and passage, is ideal for an initial encounter with the underground world. An experienced guide will accompany you on your excursion.
The karst cave Srnica lies above the source of the Gljun stream, just west of Bovec. From the headwaters to the lower entrance of the cave is just a short ascent along a hiking path. The cave is approximately 700 meters long and is comprised of a complex system of passages. The cave has two entrances – lower and upper. The altitude difference between the entrances is about 65 meters.
During periods of heavy rain, the lower entrance is inundated as the mighty waters from the Kanin range flow through. During these times, the cave is understandably inaccessible. A fascinating attraction of the caves is the numerous heart-shaped fossils that adorn the cave walls. Their unique patterns are reminiscent of the creative talents of great artists. This excursion requires 4 hours.
How difficult is caving?
Caving is an easy activity however it is not recommended for people with claustrophobia or those who are not comfortable in closed tight spaces. There are a few narrow passages that can cause anxiety. Caving is suitable for beginners, but keep in mind that it involves rappelling, therefore is not the best choice for people who are afraid of heights.
All of our trips are guided. A highly qualified guide escorts you on your caving adventure, gives directions and safety instructions. Regardless of its easy access, it’s recommended for guests to be healthy and in good general physical condition.
Minimum participants and group dynamics

- Maximum number of guests per one guide: 6.
If you are alone, don’t worry, we will join you in a group. Booking a trip as a couple – it’s more likely you will join a small team of caving adventurers.
A family or a group of friends? You might also have a guide for yourself or there could be a solo traveller joining your team. If you are in doubt or worried, about how would you fit in, contact us without hesitation. We will customize your trip in a way that everyone will come out of Srnica cave pleased.
What about our youngest?
The caving tour is appropriate also for children above the age of 10.
Karstic Caving Slovenia – Program
At the agreed-upon time, our staff will warmly welcome you at our Sport Mix office. There you will get acquainted with your guide who will accompany you on your trip. He will take care that your new adventure will proceed smoothly.
You will receive all the necessary gear after which we will transport you to the source of the Gljun where your adventure will begin. Exploring the mysteries of the subterranean world will provide you with many new impressions.
At the end of the route, the guide will lower you down a steep wall by rope back to solid ground where fresh from your adrenalin rush, you will drive back to Bovec.

Who can’t join our caving Bovec trips?
- Pregnant women,
- people with back problems and other psychophysical injuries or mobility impairments,
- those who have anxiety in enclosed spaces – claustrophobia,
- people who are overweight,
- people under the influence of drugs or alcohol,
- kids younger than 10 years.
