It generally has aquatic characteristics and offers chances for several jumps. In a two and a half kilometer stretch, it provides a series of technical jumps, pools, and majestic walls stretching towards the blue skies. The Rio Simon gorge lies in the Carnic Alps in the vicinity of Chiusaforte. Although it’s located in Italy, our little Soča Valley wonderland shares a border with our pizza and pasta loving neighbour, allowing us to explore nature beyond Slovenia’s borders but still in the vicinity of Soča Valley..
Experience the wild beauty of Rio Simon, a full-day canyoning adventure designed for those seeking a true challenge in a 4-hour descent. This canyon is not for the faint-hearted, as it features 19 waterfalls, narrow passages up to only 1,5 m wide and thrilling jumps. Due to its difficulty, challenging jumps and technical rappels, Rio Simon is not suitable for beginners and requires prior canyoneering experience as well as good physical condition. Your canyoning adventure begins with a 45-kilometer drive, taking approximately one hour from our office. The hike to the top of the canyon takes approximately one and a half hours. How Difficult is Rio Simon Canyoning?
Canyoning is an adventure sport that requires a good level of physical fitness, agility and a strong sense of adventure. Each canyon presents different challenges – some require more strength and endurance, while others demand more technical skills and bravery.
Rio Simon is one of the most demanding canyons that we have on our menu. Due to its long duration, technical descents and high waterfalls, it is not suitable for beginners or those uncomfortable with heights. If you have never tried canyoning before, we recommend starting with Sušec or Fratarica to build confidence before attempting Rio Simon.
This canyon features multiple rappels and high jumps, including a 33 m waterfall rappel and a 7 m jump. Additionally, the narrow sections and remote location make it a true challenge for adventurers looking for an intense, full-day experience.
